Senior Health and Safety Manager
Emlyn joined the New Zealand Convention Centre team to drive an improved safety culture, particularly within the subcontracted workforce. Emlyn champions open communication on site; whether it’s a relaxed environment for discussing opportunities for improvement at the weekly health and safety meetings, one-on-one professional and personal development catch-ups or engaging the sub-contractor directors to join the shift to improve their team’s safety behaviour and knowledge.
A recent audit of the project, by the client, showed there have been vast improvements over the last six months. Systems that Emlyn is primarily responsible for introducing and implementing via the health and safety and the operations team are now making their way to the ‘shop floor’. With a passion for good health and safety practice, Emlyn instils a culture that supports and fosters all staff going home safe at the end of each shift.
She has played an instrumental role in the dramatic improvement in the team’s attitude towards health and safety. Emlyn has worked for Fletcher for seven years. Over the course of her Fletcher tenure she has worked on a number of different projects with a variety of risk profiles. She is particularly passionate about the large commercial vertical projects – she makes a point to climbing a tower crane on each one. Emlyn also had an 18-month stint with Fletchers in Papua New Guinea as the very first expatriate woman in the branch and led the drive for health and safety improvements.
