Chief Sustainability Officer
John Mauro is Auckland Council’s first Chief Sustainability Officer. John and his team provide thought leadership, drive strategic direction and champion change to mainstream sustainability and resilience – to make Auckland better for all forever. John and his team lead Auckland’s strategic approach to climate change and work across the organization to embed smart sustainability practices. This means operating across and integrating such areas as transport, energy, the built environment and green infrastructure, waste and the circular economy, procurement, food and green finance. John came to Auckland from Seattle, where he worked as Policy Director for a large transport not-for-profit and for the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and Environment on climate change policy.
